Because that’s actually want you want to do right?

I’m sure you’ve heard your share of corny slogans for the start of 2020:

  • Clear vision in 2020

  • Let’s get 2020 Vision in 2020

  • Focus in with 2020 Vision

And it’s all good but I want to tell you about a way to make a lasting impact without the corny slogans.  Now I’m all about great productivity hacks but if I were to be honest everything I do stems from my relationship with God and I want to share a little of what I’ve learned about making a lasting impact through studying the life of Jesus and get the clear vision for 2020 we all are craving lol.

You know, it’s an innate desire of ours to do something major in the world right? Just stop and think for a second. What’s that big thing you want to do in life? Each one of us have this sense of need to go beyond and you know what? That desire came straight from God! Let me prove it to you!:

Ecclesiastes 3:11b He has also put eternity in their hearts, but no one can discover the work God has done from beginning to end. CSB

We run around trying to build something major on our own when it came straight from God and He has all the knowledge in the world to show us how. Let’s take a look at the life of Jesus. I think His life has some good examples of how to make an impact.  Believe in Him or not, because of His life, death, and resurrection (for those who believe) many a life has been changed. He died (and rose) over 2000 years ago and people are still talking about him. So, let’s take a few pages out of His book to see how He made a lasting impact in this whole world!  He did 3 things:

  • Seek God

  • Seek His Word

  • Serve His People

Let’s see how Jesus modeled these three things and figure out how we can make our own lasting impact in 2020 and beyond.

Seek God

Jesus, in His human form continually looked to the Father here on earth. Before major events and after just about every big miracle Jesus stole away frequently to pray and rest in His Father’s presence.

There are many examples but the final and major one was right before Judas betrayed Him and He was arrested.  He knew what was coming and He knew exactly where to go to gather strength for what was about to happen.

Luke 22:39-42 He went out and made His way as usual to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed Him. When He reached the place, He told them, “Pray that you may not fall into temptation.” Then He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, knelt down, and began to pray, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me—nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” CSB

He went out and made His way as usual and began to pray.

Notice the “as usual” and the “the place”?  Jesus had a spot ya’ll! We all need a spot where we go “as usual” to be in our Lord’s presence.  What’s your spot?

Where is your space where you get alone with God and gather the strength you need to do what you’ve been called to do? I got a few:

I challenge you: Create a space where you can get away.  It doesn’t have to be fancy or elaborate but you have to know where it is and you have to go frequently.

Seek His Word

Jesus’s conversations were laced with the Word of God. Jesus used the Word of God like a weapon!

When Jesus said in Luke 4:4 “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone” CSB

When the enemy tried to get Him to make food when fasting that came from Deuteronomy 8:3. And then again when the enemy wanted Him to bow down to him Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 6:13 and said “It is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only” (Luke 4:8).

Jesus knew the power of the Word of God and He used it to combat the enemy.

But even in regular old every day speech Jesus was quoting scripture!

When He talked about his cousin John saying Luke 7:27 “See, I am sending my messenger ahead of your; he will prepare your way before you.” In Luke 7:27 Jesus was quoting Isaiah 61:1-2.

And I could go on. I’m not even quoting all the areas where He quoted the Word and the gospels are only a selection of His ministry here on earth.  What if with every breath we’re speaking the promises of God! Power of life and death are in the tongue! How much life would we be spewing out?!

I challenge you to get into your word this year.  Memorize it, get it in your heart, speak its life over your life and see what God will do through you!

And finally Jesus,

Served People

Jesus did that throughout His whole ministry.  From healing to casting out demons and forgiving sins Jesus’s goal was to reconcile God’s children back to Him through service. His entire desire was to see people whole!

John 13: 12-17 “When Jesus had washed their feet and put on his outer clothing, he reclined again and said to them, “Do you know what I have done for you? You call me Teacher and Lord—and you are speaking rightly, since that is what I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done for you.Truly I tell you, a servant is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.” CSB

What’s that big thing you want to do? How does it serve people? Focus on that part. Focus on figuring out how to serve and help those who need the skills you have! I promise you, that will make the last impact that you innately want to have in the world. And watch your impact last way beyond you!

This is truly how we make a lasting impact and how we have clear vision in 2020!

So, I challenge you!

  1. Find some time and a place to meet with God.

  2.  Learn His Word.  Make it a part of your life.  There is so much good advice to find in there!

  3. Figure out how your skill can help others
