So we’re about a month out from the last quarter of 2020 and these first three quarters have been a doozy. But we can’t count 2020 out just yet! I wanted to get you guys thinking about how we’re going to win in 2020 despite its efforts to knock us out! Before the month’s end I encourage you to do 3 things with your goals and desires for 2020: Stop, Re-evaluate, and Commit or Recommit!

Three months is a ton of time to knock some things out and this is the perfect time to make it happen! Over the next 3 weeks I’m going to walk through building goals that actually get done but first lets:

1.     STOP

Take some time to stop. No, don’t give me that “I don’t have the time” nonsense! Your dreams are worth it! Your goals are worth it. A healthier, happier, more fulfilled you is worth it.

So, stop. It doesn’t have to be a long time. It could be a day, an afternoon, three hours. Whatever you decide, be sure to stop, rest, and think.

Get into a comfortable place with two writing pads. On one pad, you will list the things your brain will surely remind you that you forgot to do. This will be your Task Pad. On the second pad, you will write your dreams, goals you want to accomplish, and plans to create. This will be your Dream Pad. Don’t fight any unwanted thoughts—because they will come. Just write them down on the Task Pad. This is a kind of processing system that can help you get everything out of your head and on paper. Once it’s on paper and out of your head it’s easier to handle!

2.     RE-EVALUATE

During the time you set aside to stop, rest, and think, be sure to evaluate where you find yourself. Did you write down goals you wanted to accomplish at the beginning of the year? Pull those out. Ask yourself, “where am I?”

Or, if you didn’t write down goals, begin to evaluate major areas of your life (i.e. spiritual, physical, intellectual, family, finance, etc.) and ask yourself:

  • Where am I?
  • Do I like where I am?
  • Where do I want to be?

Once you do that, you can really assess how you will accomplish your desires and begin to have some control over your future!

3.     COMMIT or RECOMMIT

If you have goals you haven’t accomplished, take this time to decide if you want to recommit or remove these goals from your list. Be okay with analyzing those goals and your life and deciding if they are still relevant. One thing that has really helped me is understanding that it’s not that serious if I don’t accomplish my goal. Yes, you should press hard to make it happen. But if you don’t reach a certain goal, it’s OK! YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE. The completion of your goal is not your identity and it’s important that you learn to separate the two. Once you do that it will be easier to look at your goal objectively. Once you separate your identity from your goal, ask yourself a few questions:

  • Does this goal still excite me?
  • In the context of my life, is this goal still attainable?
  • If yes to the above questions, what do I need to do to re-up on this goal?

Ok, so now that you are refreshed and recharged, get going with the rest of this year! You may have realized there are some things you need to implement to be productive and successful over the course of the next 3-4 months. Take some time, write them down and get moving! The get moving part is usually the hardest part, but I believe in you!
